Who's Picking Your Charter Flights?

Written by Alex M. Early, CEO of The Early Air Way

What you expected.
What you expected.What you got.

We get charter requests from all sorts of people… Naturally we get requests from the passengers themselves, but we also get requests from travel agents, personal assistants, hotel concierges, limo drivers, credit card concierges, concierge companies, people at the front desk of an FBO, pseudo jet brokers, and then of course the travel agent who called the pseudo jet broker who called us. How much do these people know about air charter?

The fact of the matter is that there is a lot of training required to properly select a private jet for a given flight. Many [not all] of the people listed above have no idea how to properly shop for a jet, and have no idea what makes one option better from the next. What we encounter for the most part when there are inexperienced intermediaries involved in the shopping process is that they’re paying attention to one thing and one thing only… price.

The single most common reason for an unsatisfied guest is the selection of an aircraft that was inadequate for the trip because it was the cheapest. Hands down, this is the single biggest reason for dissatisfied passengers. Here’s a frequent example:

We get a call from “intermediary A” saying that they have a client who needs a very luxurious aircraft to fly 8 passengers from Point A to Point B. As a jet company, when we hear “very luxurious,” we immediately want to offer something along the lines of a Gulfstream G450 to accommodate a group of 8 in luxury and comfort. When we call said intermediary back with a quote for a G450, we’ll hear “I’m not offering that to my client, I have another option for half the price.” We’ll then probe a bit more and find out that this other less expensive option is actually on a 30 year old light jet where the passengers would literally be sitting on each other’s laps as opposed to our 5 year old G450 with a cabin attendant and plenty of abundant space. The concerning issue here is that all too often, the intermediary won’t know that there was a difference between the two planes and is just out there looking for the cheapest option. Many of these intermediaries are well versed in shopping for commercial airline tickets, though likely have never stepped foot on a private jet before.

All too often have we had passengers show up for the inexpensive light jets that they booked and are disappointed by the plane’s small size, slow speed, and/or old appearance. There is definitely a value in smaller and/or older light jets, though only for passengers who are properly told what they’re getting and what the alternative is in advance of their booking.

With this said, we work with many fantastic travel agents, concierges, and assistants who absolutely know what they’re doing when it comes to private jet charter. My advice to you however is to only work with a company who truly knows private aviation and how to properly advise you. If you don’t know the difference between aircraft types, make sure your advisor does or you’ll end up with a one-way ticket to a disappointing flight experience.

Flying Private With Pets

Flying Private With Pets
Written by Alex M. Early, CEO of The Early Air Way

So you have a special bond with your furry friend, I understand. Unless your dog or cat can fit in a carrier under the seat in front of you on a commercial flight, he or she will have to be checked into the baggage compartment on the aircraft. You don’t want that for your canine or feline partner.

An incredibly large number of people charter private jets so that their pets can join them in the passenger cabin. We have pets on our flights very regularly, basically every day.

When you travel with a dog on a chartered jet, you can forget about cages altogether. You can have your dog on a leash and walk him/her right up the steps onboard the aircraft. Your dog can lie down on the couch and gaze out the window and with the high tech air purifiers for dander every one will be in comfort. You can travel with your furry friend worry free of what might be happening down below. We’ll even cater to your four-legged friend if desired.

Cats are allowed onboard aircraft as well, however cats will have to remain in carriers so they don’t hide in hard to reach places, as cats can be known to do. Regardless however, your cat’s carrier can stay with you right in the main passenger cabin.

Private flight is extremely pet friendly. If you travel with pets and haven’t yet flown private, you’ll be amazed at how easy it is. Generally speaking, there is no extra charge to bring your pets with you on private jets; charges would only be incurred if Fido happens to soil the carpets.

Last Minute Private Jet Charter

Written by Alex M. Early, CEO of The Early Air Way
January 9th, 2014

Preparing a Gulfstream GIV-SP for a flight.

Just about every day, we get a call from someone in a panic hoping to book a private jet on what they believe to be very short notice. On average, that very short notice is about a three day lead-time prior to the desired travel date. When this comes up, we explain that in fact, our average lead-time prior to a trip is about three days.

What if you really need to charter a private jet last at the minute however? For, well, now… This can be done, and we do it every day. Within the industry, these trips that have to go “right now” are known as “ASAP trips.” As I sit here writing this blog article, I’m waiting for the phone to ring with an ASAP request. On average, at least 2 hours is needed to dispatch an aircraft after signed paperwork is received for your trip. If the plane is not currently sitting at your departure airport, a little more time would be needed to fly down to pick you up.

Many customers are impressed with the two-hour dispatch time, though on the flipside, many aren’t. People will often ask if they can be in the air within 15 minutes, wondering why pilots aren’t sitting in the cockpit ready to go at 2 a.m. on a Sunday morning. The fact of the matter is however, that isn’t how [… I got a call for an ASAP flight right here …] it works. Pilots are not hanging out at the airport, sitting in the cockpit just waiting for a flight. There are a few reasons for this… a) the market doesn’t justify it, b) it’s a waste of the pilots’ time, and c) crews are regulated on how much they can work. Having sit around at the airport wastes their legal duty time and would reduce their odds of being able to legally fly the real trips that come up.

We’ve dispatched planes with as little as 30 minutes notice in the past, but you have to get lucky for that to happen. If a plane has just landed from another trip at the airport you’d like to depart from, you can get out “fast.”

Availability at the very last minute can be extremely scarce, especially when your request is during the after-hours. In some cases [but not all], you’ll end up paying a noticeably premium for an ASAP trip because of required re-positioning. As such, booking flights at the very last minute isn’t recommended if you’re looking for the best value. This will be the case with any charter company of course.

As always, we’ll be available if you need to charter a jet right now, no matter where in the country you’re departing from. We know how to get you moving quickly.

How Jet Hedging Works

When you think about hedging as it relates to planes, you probably think about fuel hedging, which is something the commercial airlines do a lot of as they try to buy fuel ahead of time at a set price to provide consistent costs. Private jet owners engage in fuel hedging, too, but there is another type of hedging when it comes to private flying.

What Is Jet Hedging?

When people don’t want to or can’t afford their own plane, they can buy into fractional jet ownership, meaning they get a certain amount of use of a single plane or multiple planes in one category, such as small, medium or large. These programs offer a lot of advantages, but they also have some limitations. Jet hedging takes the process a bit further by allowing those with fractional ownership to have more control over what type of plane they have. For example, if someone bought fractional ownership in a small jet, say an eight-seater, but needed a larger jet for a trip, a hedging company could help.

Advantages Of Jet Hedging

With jet hedging, you get more control not only over the type of aircraft you fly in but also the way the seating is configured, how old it is and what its customer satisfaction rating is. If you need a larger jet or one that has a bigger range than the one in which you have ownership, hedging can make it happen. And though hedging sounds as though it would add costs onto what you already spend for your fractional ownership, in many cases such trips can actually be a better value. Hedging companies buy empty legs on other jets, which they get at a discount.

Private jet travel already has many advantages over commercial air travel and being able to do private jet hedging is just one more advantage. You can use hedging to make you air travel even more convenient.

Make Traveling With Kids Easy

It can be hard to go on a vacation with kids. You have to choose the destination wisely, so everyone will be happy. You have to choose the mode of travel wisely too. Taking kids through a crowded, busy airport can be a nightmare. On the other hand, taking kids on a long road trip can be equally as frustrating. Where does that leave you? Instead of feeling like you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, consider getting a private jet to make your travels much easier.

What Are the Benefits?

At first glance, getting a private jet for your family vacation might not seem that beneficial. However, when you do some research and find out more, you will realize that there are many benefits that you can enjoy.

  • Airports: You might think that flying private does not solve the problem of going through a busy airport. However, that is incorrect. When you fly private you get to choose what airport you fly from. That means you do not have to go out of the busy hub. You can choose a smaller, local airport that will allow you to get through security easily.
  • Timetable: When you fly private you also get to choose your own timetable. Leave for vacation when it is best for you and your family, and come back when it works for you too. You are not restricted by what is available. You get to set your own itinerary.
  • Destination: You also get to choose the perfect destination. Many times where you go is restricted by what the airlines offer. However, when you hire your own jet, you get to choose the destination.
  • Companions: You also get to choose who goes on vacation with you. That means that you will not have to feel bad that your baby is crying because everyone on the plane knew your baby was coming with.

Traveling with kids does not have to be difficult!

Take Back Your Vacations

If you have been avoiding vacations because you did not want to travel with children, take back your vacations. Do not let the challenge of traveling with kids limit you. Hire a private jet to make traveling with kids easy.

Private Jet Destinations of Winter 2016

As winter hits harder, travelers look to other places to either escape the snow and cold or to embrace it, depending on their hometown’s climate.

Colorado seems to be a very popular destination, with three of the top flight routes ending in either Aspen or Vail.

Los Angeles and New York are no surprises at being the more common outbound locations, with many private jets being chartered from those areas. But Mexico makes an appearance as the destination from Los Angeles, not that far of a flight or difference in temperature.

New York to Palm Beach Florida seems to be the most popular route expected in winter 2016.

Advantages Of A Houston Private Jet Charter

Flying commercial is a reality for most travelers, but for those with the means, a Houston private jet charter is the way to go. Even flying first class can’t match the convenience of a private jet charter. There are several advantages of using a Houston private jet charter for your flying needs.

Fly when you want
When you use a private jet charter, you have much more control over when you fly. Instead of being dependent on the airline schedules, which may or may not be convenient for you, you can choose whether you want to leave early or later in the day.

Fly where you want
One of the biggest problems with commercial air travel is that if you need to fly from one small city to another, you can’t do it directly. Instead, you have to fly through a hub and change planes, which can add hours to your trip. When you fly on a private jet charter, you can fly straight through to just about any airport, as long as it has the facilities to handle the plane on which you are flying.

Added convenience
Flying a private jet charter is much more convenient than commercial air travel. For example, you don’t have to go through long check-in lines, which means you don’t have to show up at the airport as early. You also don’t have to worry about how many bags you are bringing and whether you can carry them on or have to check them. In addition, since it will just be you and a handful of other people, you don’t have to worry about sitting next to someone who is a nuisance.

Personal attention
With a private jet charter, you get a level of personal attention that just isn’t possible when flying commercial. From check-in, to the pilots to the flight attendants, you will be treated with more personal care than you could ever hope to experience on a commercial flight.

Vacation is supposed to be a relaxing experience. If you come back from vacation needing a vacation, something did not go right.

There are many reasons to get a private jet, but three of the big ones are reliability, personalization and ease.

Reliability

Private jets are reliable.

The reliability makes your vacation or work trip much more enjoyable and less stressful.

Personalization

You get to personalize the trip.

  • Leave from whatever airport you want to. You get to choose whichever airport is easiest for you.
  • Go wherever you want. You get to choose to go wherever you want, even if it is not a popular destination.
  • You also get to personalize the timeline. That means if you do not want to stop anywhere, you do not have to. You also get to choose the plane you fly on.

You get the trip you want.

Ease

Your trip can be made so much easier if you fly private.

  • The pilot may not ask you to go through security.
  • Many private flights have access to free parking.
  • The plane will not leave without you, so you do not have to worry about being late.

Take the stress out of your next plane ride.

Hire a Jet

Next time you want to go on vacation or need to go on a work related trip, consider hiring a private jet. You will have less stress, choose all of the details yourself and travel with ease every time you travel on a private jet.
