  • Luxury hotels sell out months in advance of booking dates, so don’t expect a last-minute deal.
  • Travel during the shoulder seasons for your destination, but avoid the worst weather seasons for that local.
  • Aggregator websites can find the lowest room rates. They verify prices from various different sources and compare them.
  • Member-only websites negotiate for heavy discounts but on very temporary time periods.
  • Check the price of your bookings on aggregator sites with those from the official hotel site, you may even get an even better rate if you submit a Best Rate Guarantee claim.
  • Keep an eye out for errors in room rates on various forums.
  • Some hotel bookings can be packaged with upgrades, or other perks through a travel advisor.

  • Copenhagen from “The Danish Girl”: The waterfront district of Nyhavn has great little townhouses lining the waterways. Some scenes in the movie glimpse iconic structures with great history to delve into.
  • Brooklyn Coney Island/Wexford from “Brooklyn”: Iconic beaches are shown in this movie with two different atmospheres, a packed beach where  people battle it out for space and the more remote pristine beaches in Ireland. The soft dunes of Ireland’s beaches are nearby St. Aidan’s cathedral.

Available nearby are minimalist Norwegian log houses or historical buildings to reconnect with olden times.

David Ropeik is a risk consultant and writes on the difference between risk and fright.

In the battle between your gut and your brain, your gut will win. One way to make sensible choices as a traveler is to nudge your gut toward rationality by feeding it accurate information.

Some points brought up to assuage the gut reactions we all face include;

  • Check road safety conditions in he country you are traveling.
  • Update yourself on the recommendations by the CDC for your destination.
  • Take statistics with a grain of salt, numbers are often misreported.
  • Weigh the risks of traveling against those of staying home, sometimes a different danger is riskier.
