If you are retired and have a flexible schedule, consider traveling during “shoulder season,” which is April-mid-June or September-October. Consider investing in travel insurance if your medical insurance does not cover you overseas. Pack light, but do bring an extra pair of eyeglasses and a full supply of your medications. Many places will offer senior discounts, so be sure to look into hotel accommodations, rail tickets, and even sightseeing venues that provide such discounts.
