Commercial airlines have been touting their faster flight times and further reaches, but Solar Impulse-2 is changing the game. While Solar Impulse-2 only has room for the pilot, it is proving the viability for all electric, renewable-fueled aircraft.
This aircraft is completely solar powered and is capable of flying at night on stored power. Each day is spent ascending while charging the batteries to full, and each night is spent gliding under power back to the starting elevation.
There were no speed records broken, but the team of pilots is using this demonstration to spur innovation in the air travel industry.
