Carbon Nanotubes Improve Airplanes
Modern aircraft are built using advanced composites for strength and conserving weight. By using mainly composite materials each airplane can shave about 20% of the total weight when compared to using aluminum and steel supports.
MIT aerospace researchers have found a method of bonding composite layers into a combined material more structurally sound per pound than current composites. Published in Composites Science and Technology this process fastened layers together using carbon nanotubes for their impressive strength.
