When it was first delivered towards the end of 2006, the Eclipse 500 became the first Very Light Jet. When it was launched, the Eclipse 500 was to be the lease expensive small aircraft on the market at just under $1,000,000.00. In our opinion, the Eclipse 500 is fine for short trips, however do understand that the cabin of the aircraft is very small. Some Eclipse 500s are configured for only 3 passengers, whereas others are configured for 4. Because of its small size and light weight, Federal Excise Taxes do not need to be collected for charter flights on the Eclipse 500.
