World Tourism Tops 1.1 Billion

According to the UN World Tourism Barometer, global international tourist numbers have risen to over 1.1 billion in 2014, 4.7% higher than in 2013. Europe kept its position as the most visited region, with Asia and the Americas seeing the strongest growth in visitor numbers. International tourism in the Middle East seems to have risen as well, despite some tensions and unrest in the region. Russia saw a 6% decline in tourism, Mexico saw a double-digit increase, and North America saw an 8% increase in tourism. Africa saw a decent rise of 3% despite the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
