Airlines in America have dwindled from eight national corporations through mergers and takeovers into the four we have today, and nearby car rental companies have caught on to their schemes. The major three car rental companies are following the airlines towards the goal of charging the most possible for their services.

In transportation optimizing fleet size and location is the highest priority. Making sure just enough inventory, cars or planes in this instance, is used to meet the demands of consumers can make or break the company. The big three car renters, Avis, Hertz, and Enterprise, have kept the brands of their acquired competition to retain those brand loyal customers and market niches.
